May 10, 1928 - December 21, 2020
Gladys Darlene Roseman Lewis, 92, of Gloucester, died on December 21, 2020 surrounded by loving family at Walter Reed Hospital. She was born on May 10, 1928 in Salisbury, North Carolina. Gladys left rural North Carolina to live with family in Portsmouth, Virginia shortly after her school days in 1944. There Gladys met her loving and devoted husband – Glenn W. Lewis. Gladys and Glenn were married on October 6, 1945. The Lewis family traversed the United States, following Glenn’s military career, and ultimately retired in Gloucester, Virginia. Gladys worked as a Civil Service employee garnering multiple service awards and accolades for 20+ years at local federal installations – retiring at Yorktown Naval Weapons Station in 1993. After retiring, Gladys loved her demo gigs (suited her servant heart), friendship and family. Gladys lived a full life, as a loving wife with an affectionate motherly disposition. A cherished and beloved grandmother and great-grandmother to her immediate family who lived in the same house or within walking distance. In addition to her husband Glenn, parents, Lewis and Lou Earnhart Roseman, siblings Kathleen (Tince), Boots, Dink, and Joe preceded her in death. Gladys is survived by a multi-generational family – sister Cheryl and Elbert Klutz, children Michael and Dollie Lewis, Patricia Lewis Johnson, grandchildren: David Glenn Lewis, Christian and Suzanne Brumm, Ami Elizabeth McCullough, Laura and Ben Howlett, great-grandchildren: Glenn, Sierra, Savanna and David Lewis, Nathaniel and Cayden Brumm, Ryan and Lila McCullough, Addy and Elli Nichols, Chandler and Sammie Howlett. A Special thank you from the family to the wonderful ladies at Gloucester House who cared for her over the past year. Also thank you to the doctors and nurses at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. Thank you Father Gregory. REST IN PEACE GRANDMAMA! A Christian Funeral Liturgy officiated by Father Gregory Kandt will be held at noon on Monday, December 28, 2020 at St. Therese Catholic Church.
