On December 30, 2020, Mary Jeanette “Net” Lawson Ward Price passed away peacefully, at her daughter’s home in Richmond, VA, surrounded by family, after a long battle with dementia. She was born October 20, 1933 in Norfolk, VA where she graduated from Maury High School, took college courses at William & Mary and completed an Associate Degree in business at Thomas Nelson Community College. She had varied careers in Gloucester County as Attendance Officer for schools, working with the Head Start Program, retired billing officer at Virginia Power, salesperson for World Book Encyclopedia, and bookkeeper at Jordan Marine Service for many years. She found her love of music at an early age and continued to play, teach others and serve as a church pianist and organist throughout her life. She attended Gospel Hall in Portsmouth, Norfolk and Bena. God led her to White Marsh Baptist Church where she served for 36 years in the children’s ministry and as a pianist. She loved music, history, gardening and decorating. She was committed to loving family and helping others. She was preceded in death by her parents James A. and Mary Hazel Lawson, her husband Howard “Ed” Price, and her stepson Johny Price. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Elizabeth “Betty” Ward Jordan Williams (Hamilton), Algie Bradford “Brad” Ward (Beth), Karen Ward Borja (David), Laura Hazel Ward-Germain (Scott); her step-children, Chad Price (Jennifer) and Carrie Price Harper (Don); her foster children, Grace Via, Hope Via Reason, Daniel Via and David Via; her siblings, James “Jimmy” Lawson (Pat), Rebecca “Becky” McLaughlin, Sarah Houck (Gene); 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous other family members and friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 7th from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point, with a celebration of life service on Friday, January 8th at 11:00 am in their chapel. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks are required for entry and social distancing is mandatory. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, VA.
